For info   Reviews on this site try to be pretty free-form, focusing on the overall feeling of the dram as well as specific flavours. The scoring is biased towards taste (the key factor!), and drams are always tested against a control or as part of a group test.

Tastes & Smells
Fruity and dry when you bring it close, with mint (toothpaste) pervading from nose-to-mouth, whilst a savoury feeling drops off. Once in the mouth, it gives an initial sour kick - somewhat tingly - with an underlying tempered sweetness. There are nice smells of a full, if slightly weird, meal: bacon bits, cheesey puffs, pears and apple crumble. All this said, if I had to define the smells with just two things, I'd definitely say eggnog and toffee pennies. The taste was pretty cotnrasting: a minty kick.

Any good?
I found it hard to pin down my opinion of this. It was very subtle and didn't stand up too well to the G5.8 control, but I warmed to it. It's a shame some of the smells didn't become tastes, but the mintiness was refeshing. If anything, it was a bit soft (and creamy?) whereas I wanted it to push on with the mint freshness and truly stand out.

Reminiscent of...
Due to the minty kick, this really reminded me of early morning camping, walking out and seeing toothpaste residue on nettles, the result of others' early morning ablutions.

7.2
4.1

Much fresher than many grain whiskies but also soft with a kick.

In summary:
Initially a bit weak feeling, but a minty kick with a subtle flavour backdrop pushed this one up up the charts a little. Not the best, or best value, example of a Strathclyde you'll find, however.
