For info   Reviews on this site try to be pretty free-form, focusing on the overall feeling of the dram as well as specific flavours. The scoring is biased towards taste (the key factor!), and drams are always tested against a control or as part of a group test.

Tastes & Smells
Immediately I got smells of cob nuts (imagine fresh, moist hazelnuts) and a big dose of Christmas pudding sauce (Christmas pudding with orange juice, butter, sugar and brandy). This really gave off a sherried nose which didn't really translate to the taste, where a dominating, slightly cloying oiliness came to the fore, improving into a floral richness. That oiliness keeps knocking on the door though, and leaves a coating like you've just eaten chip shop chips. It smelled of red fruit drops and Vino Verde and only the slight sweetness of the fruit drops remained on the taste, mixed with some meatiness ..pork.. moving to a chili spice at the end. It shares a couple of things with the Master of Malt Invergordon 41yo (Review #2), with wine and Metaxa featuring. Finally, sweet brandy buns?

Any good?
It's reasonably pleasant when you get the first hit, but it gradually disappoints. The oiliness dominates in the mouth and stays with you once you've swallowed. The smell was definitely better than the taste, which is dominated by some undesirables rather than the subtle niceties that possibly lurk below.

Reminiscent of...
It made me think of 20 minutes after leaving a chip shop on the way home from a night out in town - slight feeling of regret, but the odd good memory poking through.

2.2

I couldn't help think of chip shops thanks to a cloying greasiness.

In summary:
Being nice - sweet brandy buns whilst someone throws greasy chips at you. In reality, for the cost there are better options and there are a good number of Invergordons I'd try before this, despite its intriguingly considerable age.
